The Maine Track Club includes all kinds of runners doing many different distances and paces, from the weekend jogger to the daily 20-minute runner to the serious road racer.
Club members gather for an informal distance run on Saturday mornings at 7 a.m. in the parking lot of Maine Roasters Coffee on Route 1 in Falmouth. This is a great opportunity to discover the social aspects of running. All ability levels are welcome. Runners can group themselves based on pace and then go out for runs ranging from 5-20 miles through Falmouth and Portland. The courses are well laid out; click here to download a map of the individual routes. Maps will also be available at the start of each group run.
MTC members will be asked to volunteer in advance to put out water at three locations. The runners congregate back at Maine Roasters Coffee after finishing to continue discussions or to get a cup of Joe to go. The runs are very informal, with the only formality being that they always start at exactly 7 a.m. all year long. This is an especially great way to train for the marathon distance, running in the company of friends.
Please note that the courses are on public streets or trails, and thus caution should be exercised; the Maine Track Club assumes no liability for runners making use of the group runs. For more information about the Roasters Runs and/or to sign up to put out water, contact Sandy Walton.
Also, there are several groups within the club that meet for runs on a regular basis. If you don't see a group below that's suitable for your location, pace or distance, then try our meeting place section (see below for more details).
This group meets Sundays at 7:30 a.m. in the Pownal Hall parking lot at Pineland for runs of various distances. Choice of road or trail. Contact Maureen Sproul 926-4681.
The Kennebunk Thursday Night group runs every Thursday night year round, rain or shine. The group size ranges from 7 or 8 to over 20 depending on the weather and time of year. Pace ranges from 7-minute miles to several running 8s to 9s and sometimes slower. Distance is up to 6.5 miles. Following the run, tradition insists on a trip to Federal Jack's Brew Pub in Kennebunkport for libations and dinner, which always wraps up by 9 p.m. Several members of the group also run Sunday mornings in Kennebunk or in North Berwick. Contact Steve Jacobsen at 985-4107 (nights) or 985-3244 (days).
The Maine Running Company hosts group runs around the Back Cove starting at 6 p.m. Thursday evenings from its store on Forest Ave. The run usually includes options for a 4-mile or 7-mile loop. Contact John Rogers (773-6601).
The Maine Front Runners, a gay and lesbian running club, meets at Back Cove across from Hannaford every Saturday morning at 9:05 a.m. Everybody welcome. Contact Jim Estes at Jim Estes (671-7733).
The Peak Performance Multisport hosts mid-day and early evening group runs during the week, for varying levels of runners. Contact Jeanne Hackett (939-0830).
Anyone interested in weekly morning runs or weekend early-afternoon runs can contact Gene Roy (284-8036).
Are you tired of running alone all the time because you don't know anyone in your area who runs the same pace and distance as you do? If so, then here's the place for you. Send us a message with your location, your usual pace and distance, the time of day you prefer to run, and contact information (phone number and/or e-mail address). We'll post your message here so that other runners can contact you if they fall into the same category.

Just moved to Biddeford. I'm 25 and am interested in running and bicycling. I usually run 4-6 miles 3 or 4 times a week at around a 7:30-8 minute mile. I bicycle 25-35 miles 3 or 4 times a week around 18 mph average speed. I've done several races in both and want to get faster! I'm new to the area and would also like so help finding good roads and trails.

I’m training for an October marathon and am looking for a training partner for my long runs on the weekends. I live in Portland. My pace at this point is between 9 and 10 min./mile. Is anyone training for Steamtown (in Pennsylvania)? It’s rated by Runner’s World as one of the 10 fastest courses in the country, an excellent place to try to qualify for Boston.

like someone to run with and show me some good places to run. I usually run between 6-8 miles a day. I try to get a long run in during the week. On average of 6:08 to 7:00 mile pace. I can run early in the morning or any time after 5 p.m. during the week and anytime during the weekend.

I've just moved to South Portland this October. My current pace is about a 9 min/mile for 5 miles, probably faster if I wasn't so bored running alone! My goal is to increase my pace to 7 min/mile for a half marathon over the next several months. I'm really just interested in finding all of the wonderful trails and routes the surrounding area has to offer, and jog/run them with pleasant company! During the work week South Portland/Portland area preferable, early mornings. Willing to travel on the weekends!

I currently reside in Cape Elizabeth and run twice a week along a 9-mile course that brings me along Shore Rd. I average about 7:15 mile splits. I participate in about 6 road races and 2 triathlons within New England during a given year. The reason for posting this message is to communicate with those that do the same. It would be beneficial to receive and access information or advise from those who have previously participated in the same events or events that I wish to explore.

I am new to Portland and like to run between 4-6 miles 5 times a week, rain or shine, at an 8/9-minute pace. (Usually early mornings or at lunch time - my schedule is flexible). I am looking for fun and energetic individuals who enjoy exploring new trails and like a bit of conversation to help pass the time. I live close to city center, but I am willing to travel within the Portland area.

I live in South Portland, I'm 25 and have a very flexible school/work schedule. Currently I run about 9-minute miles and usually I do 3-4 miles 4 days a week. But I would really like to build in some longer weekend runs once my endurance increases. It would be nice to run with someone through the winter to keep the motivation going.

I am going to be in Portland all summer doing an internship. I am 20 years old and I run cross country and track at the University of North Carolina. I am hoping to find some training partners for the summer because sometimes it is really hard to pull yourself out of bed or run after work when you know you're not meeting anybody. Anyway, I am planning on running 7-9 miles everyday and some pretty fast tempos and I was really hoping I could find somebody who will push me because I plan on training hard. I want to have a good season this year because I was injured last summer and redshirted cross and indoor season.

I live in Topsham and have been running continuously since July '06. My short runs are 3 miles and long runs are 6 miles, at a pace of 10-11 minutes. I generally like to run in the evening and on weekends. I'm looking for a partner that runs a little quicker then myself, so I can be challenged and pushed. I have a positive attitude, and looking for someone with the same. My new motto is "I run not only for myself, but my family, and the t-shirt is a nice perk."

I live in Honolulu at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. I run late afternoon/early evening before sunset around Diamond Head and through Kahala, but any MTC member visiting can give me a call and I may be able to rearrange my schedule for a morning run. Being born and raised in Maine, I've been an MTC member since 1979. I'm currently training for a marathon, so my mileage is anywhere from 7-13 miles a day. I coach a running club for women and we do a track workout Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., and I'm an assistant coach for the women's cross country team at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.

I live in Minot; yes, that is in Maine. I go on mountain run adventures throughout the summer and fall. The runs are usually 10 miles +/- and will take 4 hours. Some runs are stretched to 15 to 20 to 30 miles. I do the runs in the NH, Bethel and Rangeley areas. It is a tough and at times an extreme workout. I have been doing the runs alone, but that is not safe. Anyone interested in joining me on a couple of mountain adventures?

I'm 19, home for the summer and looking for someone to run with in Cape Elizabeth,
Williard/Mitchell area. Beginning again after a tough semester off the running streets,
but I'm looking to get back in the swing -- 5 miles, 10+/- min/mile, but could be faster
if I didn't have to motivate myself to move -- time of day flexible.

I'm looking for runs anywhere bewtween 4-7 miles, early mornings, weekdays after 4 p.m., and/or weekends. Looking to increase speed and distance.

Y'know how a running partner can be that extra nudge that gets you out the door? Me, I'm needing that. I tend to be a morning runner, 'round 8 a.m., often around Back Cove in Portland but happy to run elsewhere, especially trails. Weekend long run? I'm in. My comfortable talking pace is 8- or 9-minute miles, but I'm open/eager to getting some speed back. Male/female, old/young, come as you are -- and prepare for slightly breathless chat ranging from kids and beer to old cars and new music.
